The Air India Boeing 787 aircraft bound to London crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday, 12th June. According to Air India, the crash happened shortly after take off from Ahmedabad, involving 242 people on board including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew. The 230 passenger nationalities are 169 Indian, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian.The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal, with first officer Clive Kundar, bound for London Gatwick.
The flight that took off at 1.38 crashed into a doctor's hostel near a medical college. The authorities said that 5 medical students died, and several others were injured. A few hours after the crash, smoke was still rising from the building of the crash site. Eyewitnesses described the accident scene chaos as the emergency response team rushed to the crash site.
Under the civil aviation ministry, AAIB is in charge of classifying safety issues involving aircraft flying in Indian airspace as accidents or major incidents. Air India's chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said an "emergency centre has been activated" and a support team put in place for families seeking information. There is no cause of the accident yet, but the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are now collecting flight data, voice recordings and witness statements, including Boeing representatives.

UAE Flights to Ahmedabad
Following the crash, flights between the UAE and Ahmedabad were delayed.
UAE airlines such as FlyDubai and Emirates continue to watch the situation. While most flights are running on schedule, SpiceJet's SG016 from Dubai has been delayed. The accident caused an immediate suspension of operations at Ahmedabad Airport, which was later resumed. Air India operates emergency support, and customers are encouraged to check with airlines for travel information.
